MENTORING, COACHING AND E-LEARNING

Connections Communications Centre has a network of industry freelancers
who provide expert motivational and business support to trainees.
Mentors are creative industry professionals with years of experience and
knowledge to pass on to trainees. Coaches are trained to develop
Connections clients towards the future, focussing on the right paths for
achieving goals and preparing for change.

Mentoring is a one-to-one relationship intended to help one person - the
'mentee' - benefit from the knowledge and experience of another - the
'mentor'. The essential elements are the sharing of knowledge that would
not readily be available to the mentee in other ways (through formal
training programmes or study) and the active realization of the mentee's
potential.

Coaching is a means of guiding the coachee towards the future, acquiring
the appropriate skills and behaviours to meet professional and personal
goals. It can be a source of motivation and inspiration to support the
coachee to achieve their goals.

Mentoring and coaching provide broader viewpoints and, at the same time,
a grasp of detailed issues tailored to the individual mentee's needs.
It's an individual learning process that can cover the whole range, from
the basic teacher-student relationship to peer-to-peer guidance, even
within the same mentor-mentee relationship. The mentor can challenge the
mentee to ask the right questions, articulate their goals, and discover
the right resources for what they want to achieve.

Connections also encourages and facilitates e-mentoring and e-learning
as a way of improving learning from wherever a computer is available.
All participants in Connections programmes gain access to our "Ontrack"
online learning resources.  The Ontrack online learning environment is
based upon 'Moodle' software which was appraised and selected for
development by the Open University and is widely used in adult education
colleges. CCC has already received praise for trialling Ontrack in
vocational, technical and business skills training courses as a
tailor-made online learning and post-course support resource. Through
Ontrack, students can access bespoke learning materials, assignments,
discussion groups and e-mentoring services from any computer with
internet access.

Mentoring, coaching and e-learning are now available through Connections
Communications Centre's 'Innovation for Success' programme for
freelancers, employees and sole-traders in Park Royal, Southwark and
Lambeth.
